HISTORY

Runaround Sue is a superhuman and a member of a criminal group known as the Freak Show. Her real name has not been documented.[1] She possesses super-speed, which is believed to be the result of illegal bio-engineering experiments. These procedures were secretly funded by Lillian Hawkes and carried out by the ex-convict and rogue scientist Max Castle, himself a member of the Freak Show as Castle.[2] During her time with the team, Runaround Sue developed a romantic involvement with her teammate, Siphon, another ex-convict.

Runaround Sue’s first recorded mission involved an undercover operation at a high-profile Science Expo in Chicago. The event showcased cutting-edge technology that Max Castle and Siphon intended to steal for their own purposes. The heist was interrupted by the unexpected appearance of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan).[3]

Following their initial defeat, the Freak Show regrouped to determine their next move. After a coin flip decided their trajectory, the team shifted their focus from corporate espionage to the assassination of Green Lantern. The group viewed the hero as the primary obstacle to their long-term goal of eliminating competitor companies.[4]

During a subsequent confrontation, Runaround Sue managed to stripped the power ring from Green Lantern’s finger using her superspeed. However, the victory was momentary as Jordan maintained a mental link with the ring, controlling it remotely to neutralize Runaround Sue while the ring was in her possession.[5]

In the Freak Show’s final stand against the Green Lantern, the hero exploited Runaround Sue's own momentum, using her speed to lead her to crash into a wall, taking her out of the battle.[6]The rest of the Freak Show was defeated shortly thereafter.

In the aftermath Lillian Hawkes killed Max Castle, claiming the act was "self-defense" to distance herself from his criminal activities. Runaround Sue and the surviving members of the Freak Show were taken into custody. Their current whereabouts and activities remain unrecorded. [7]

POWERS AND WEAPONS

Runaround Sue has exhibited the ability to move, react, and travel at velocities far exceeding the human norm. This allows her to perform complex tasks, such as disarming a Green Lantern, before an opponent can react. The exact extent of these abilities, including her top speed and metabolic requirements from the bio-engineering are not known. Due to her relatively easy defeats, it appears she is not well practiced in the use of her powers.
