| History of the DC Universe |
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the Event & Character/Team Timelines is to provide a condensed overview of the major events and developments that shaped the heroes, teams, and organizations of the DC Universe.
Each era is divided into columns dedicated to specific heroes, teams, or areas of the DC Universe, highlighting how events unfolded across the DC Universe during the same period of history.
The timelines below flow vertically from top to bottom, with each row centered around a major event that serves as the starting point for the developments listed across the timeline.

Comments on Chronology
Not all Main Events in the timelines are major crossover events, as the chronology has been structured to divide the history of the DC Universe into manageable historical periods.
A casual reading of DC comics quickly makes it clear that time does not pass at the same rate for the characters as it does in the real world. Many stories continue directly from previous issues, sometimes only minutes or hours later. As a result, these timelines focus primarily on the sequence of events rather than exact years or the passage of real-world publication time.
Stories may also contain references to contemporary fashions, slang, technology, or even specific dates. These are often examples of what is commonly referred to as Topical References — details added by writers and artists to make stories feel current at the time of publication. Such references are not always intended to establish a fixed year, decade, or historical placement within the larger history of the DC Universe.
