HISTORY
- Dr. Eric Shanner was an old man who was strongly opposed to nuclear energy. In order to convince the world of its dangers, Shanner created the Nuclear Family, a group of sentient robots whose individual powers mimicked the stages of a nuclear explosion.
The Family consisted of "Dad" (emitted radiation); "Mom" (created electromagnetic pulses); "Biff" (produced a thermal pulse); "Sis" (emitted a destructive blast wave); and "Brat" and "Dog" (able to turn themselves into radioactive fallout).
The Outsiders (II) prevented then from causing a meltdown at Esperanza Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Later, it was revealed that the Nuclear Family were all replications of Shanner's family, all of whom (but him) had died from radiation poisoning. The entire Nuclear Family was ultimately blown up and destroyed by Metamorpho. Doctor Shanner is still alive but his current whereabouts are unknown.
