HISTORY
The Cult of the Red Man was a sect of the Weaponers of Qward that revered Sinestro. They believed their master was alive and well, plotting his return. Until that time, they sought to "...keep his schemes and dreams alive in the anti-matter universe." Multiple Qwardians would wear masks and dress in homage to Sinestro. A massive idol was created in Sinestro's image which would spit yellow flame from its mouth.[1]
At the time the cult was in operation, Sinestro was believed to have died when he was executed by the Green Lantern Corps.[2] The Green Lantern Corps had been disbanded for a time, but was slowly returning. The Cult of the Red Man sought to discredit the Corps before it could grow in strength. To this end, they used Anti-Oan energy created by the Sinestro idol to power an inept version of the Green Lantern Corps. The plan involved working in secrecy using the clown-like alien race know as the Poglachi as "Guardians" of their Poglachian Green Lantern Corps. This plan was undone by the work of the unlikely teamwork of Green Lanterns Guy Gardner and G'nort. [3]
Months later, the Cult of the Red Man attempted to restore the idol, but for the return of Guy Gardner. This time, Gardner was not a Green Lantern and was partnered with Lobo. The pair had journeyed to Qward to claim Sinestro's yellow power ring.[4]
