HISTORY
Ambrose was a senior member of the organization known as Elexir, which operated under the direction of Perpetuam Vita. Alongside Vita and a doctor named Burton, Ambrose helped oversee a pyramid scheme that promised extended life spans via injections of LXR in exchange for loyalty and services.
Records place Ambrose as far back as 1924, when he and Dr. Burton were documented meeting with Ra's al Ghul. Unlike the countless individuals who later fell victim to Elexir's promises, Ambrose, Burton, and Vita had somehow gained access to Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pits themselves. Though the true extent of this arrangement remains unclear, the trio used their own prolonged lives as living evidence to legitimize LXR, selling the illusion of immortality to their followers while concealing the true source of their longevity.
Elexir's operations eventually drew the attention of Batman following his encounter with the assassin Asema. In an effort to uncover more information, Batman enlisted private investigator Harvey Bullock, but Bullock was soon abducted and taken to Elexir's headquarters in Pokolistan. There, he was held alongside Penguin, who had been independently investigating the organization. Batman tracked them to the compound, and with the assistance of Bullock and the Penguin, Elexir was dismantled. During the confrontation, Ambrose murdered Dr. Burton when he became an obstacle. However, once captured and interrogated by Bullock and the Penguin, Ambrose swiftly betrayed his superior, revealing the location of Perpetuam Vita. His attempt to save himself proved futile, as Vita ultimately killed him for his betrayal.
