OVERVIEW

The Green Lantern of Sector 2814, Abin Sur survived a potentially fatal crash on Earth.

HISTORY

Born on the planet Ungara, Abin Sur's moral foundation was established during his childhood. The defining characteristic of his life, the unshakable belief that all life is precious, was instilled in him by his sister, Arin Sur. This core philosophy guided his actions long before he was ever chosen by a power ring to serve as a Green Lantern.

During his service, he trained fellow Lantern Thaal Sinestro, and the two became close friends as Sinestro entered into a relationship with Arin. This bond was fractured when the Manhunters caused the total destruction of Ungara and the death of Arin Sur.

The Manhunters were not the only threat to the universe. The Black Lanterns were an unstoppable force, tearing through multiple sectors. While many Green Lanterns fell in battle, the Guardians of the Universe summoned Abin Sur to retrieve the Light Entity from Earth and bring it to Oa for safekeeping. Abin Sur's arrival on Earth almost proved fatal.

Caught between two warring parties, Abin Sur's ship was hit be an energy beam and crashed outside of Coast City. U.S. Air Force pilot Hal Jordan came to his aid. As an alien, Abin Sur was taken away by the U.S. government.

As the Guardians wanted Abin Sur to complete his mission, Sinestro had discovered the prophecy of the Flashpoint. Abin Sur wanted to help the people of Earth but Sinestro wanted to seize the ability to rewrite history though it would require Abin Sur's death. The two fought with Sinestro serving his one-friend's hand.

Though Abin Sur was able to defeat Sinesro, he had still run afoul of the Guardians. His ring's energy would soon dissipate. Abin Sur died trying to save the Earth the Light Entity resurrected the Ungaran as a White Lantern to continue his work.

As a Green Lantern, Abin Sur possessed a power ring and power battery.
