HISTORY

A childhood friend of Bruce Wayne, with similarly wealthy parents and a keen, active mind, Tommy Elliot's young life was marked with tragedy when his parents were involved in a car crash. Bruce's father Thomas attempted to save them, but Tommy's father died in surgery. After Bruce's parents' death some time later, Bruce and Tommy drifted apart until Bruce was injured in a car crash (actually the result of a fall while acting as the hero Batman) and Tommy, now a top-class surgeon, was brought in to save his life, which he did, also renewing their friendship. However, this was a cover. Elliot had long harboured a hatred for Bruce because the accident which killed his father had been Tommy's idea; he wanted his parents to die so that he could inherit their fortune, but Thomas Wayne had ruined that. When his mother finally died of cancer many years later, he had the resources to exact his revenge. Discovering that Bruce Wayne was Batman, he worked with the Riddler to prepare a great game for him involving many of his friends and foes which was only foiled when Harvey Dent, healed by Elliot, turned against them. Elliot was injured in the subsequent firefight, and plunged into Gotham harbour.

He was presumed dead, but soon returned, determined to win Gotham for himself, with the Riddler as his first target. He gained an ally in Prometheus III, but found himself up against both Batman and the Joker, a three-way battle which none of them won. He also encountered Poison Ivy, offering to make her human again, but their encounter ultimately ended in her death (though she, too, has recently reappeared on the scene, suggesting that her death was faked by either Hush or Batman). Hush has also found himself on the wrong side of the villainous Society, meaning that he is now a man with a great many enemies.
