First Appearance: Doom Patrol Vol. 3 #4 (March 2002)

HISTORY

A man who had good intentions but caused harm around him, Tycho Bray was born in Detroit and grew up with a restaurant owner who told him legends of ancient China, like the story of Nao Yut. Tycho's fascination with these stories did not stop as he grew up. He joined the Navy to get to China, then got a weekend pass to Hong Kong, just to get the chance to witness the rites of Chinese sorcerers. When doing so, a horde of little demon creatures attacked him and picked his eyes out. Remembering the legend of the Chinese prince Nao Yut, trapped between the living world and the afterlife, Tycho thought that reviving the spirit would help him get not only access to magic powers, but also his sight back. He stole Nao Yut's six legendary breast plates from the San Vicente Museum, and revived the six demon creatures inside them, as well as the spirit of Nao Yut himself. A seventh spirit, that of the Blacksmith who had once forged the armors, was given to Tycho who got his eyes back instantly. Then the Doom Patrol interfered. The spirits were trapped and Tycho lost his sight again. Later, Tycho tracked down the actual mummified body of Nao Yut, stole it and restored the spirit to the body. And for the guardian spirits, he let them possess six members of the Doom Patrol. In the end, Tycho succeeded – Nao Yut was restored to his own body, Tycho finished the business by helping the seven spirits to the next world, and was promised the spirit and eyes of the Blacksmith in return. However, the spirits had lied all along, and left a sobbing blind Tycho behind them after leaving for the next world.
