Racial prejudice against the Japanese during World War II forced Miya Shimada's family to leave America and return to Japan. When in Japan, Miya discovered that she had aquatic powers and offered them to the Japanese government. As Tsunami, Miya fought the All-Star Squadron on several occasions, before changing sides and joining up with the heroic Young All-Stars. After World War II, Miya and her lover Neptune Perkins made a pact with Atlan and aged slower than most humans. While living in San Francisco, Miya had a daughter named Deborah. Recently Deborah discovered her own water-based powers and has become the super hero known as Deep Blue. It was also revealed that Tsunami was impregnated by Atlan rather than Perkins.
