  Inuit Alaskan Thomas Kalmaku was forced to move to the contiguous states due to a severe lack of financial resources. He became a mechanic at Ferris Aircraft, where he met and became fast friends with Hal Jordan, whom he soon discovered was also the super-hero Green Lantern. Often known as 'Pieface', Kalmaku was a loyal companion to Jordan for many years. Later he was identified as one of the 'Chosen', humans who would ascend to the next level of evolution, but declined this position in favour of his family. He was nevertheless granted a latent power to bring out the very best in people around him through a connection to the 'light' of the world.
