History

  Roger Romaine was a foe of the original Mister Terrific who made a deal with the demon Shaitan, gaining great mind-possessing powers. In exchange, Romaine would provide Shaitan with an opportunity to attack the Spectre. During an anniversary meeting on the JLA Satellite, Mister Terrific realized that the Spirit King was possessing the body of the Flash (I), but the villain killed Terrific, using Flash's super speed so nobody could see who the killer was. Eventually discovering the truth, the JSA chased the Spirit King to Earth. In the ensuing battle, the Spirit King assumed control of Doctor Fate, and, together with Shaitan, almost succeeded to defeat the Spectre. However, the spirit of Mister Terrific returned and disrupted the connection between Romaine and Shaitan. The Spirit King ended up suffering in Hell.
