First Appearance: Justice League of America #45 (June 1966)

HISTORY

Professor Andrew Zagarian invented "plastalloy", a synthetic substance that resembled human tissue, meant for artificial body parts. As an experiment, he created an artificial being of the material. However, the creation gained some sort of pseudo-life, and as the Shaggy Man, it attacked anything that moved with great strength and fury. The JLA was called in, but failed to stop the creature, since it could rapidly regenerate any body part it lost. The Flash then had Zagarian construct a second Shaggy Man, and trapped the two creatures (plus a Moon Creature the League had recently battled) in a deep pit hoping that they would fight each other for eternity. That would have succeeded were it not for the interference of Hector Hammond, who freed the original Shaggy Man and had it battle the JLA once again. This time, Green Lantern used his ring to reduce the monster to tiny size, imprisoning it in a capsule. Freed during the Crisis, the Shaggy Man eventually ended up in custody of the American Military. General Wade Eiling transplanted his own mind into the creature's body, shaved its body, and became the General, a creature with brains AND muscles.
