  Captain Richard Davis was Hal Jordan's commander during their time in the Air Force. Years later, Davis became the VP of Ferris Aircraft, where Jordan worked as a test pilot. Although still good friends, Davis was jealous of Hal because of his own heart condition that did not allow him to test-fly. Before the test flight of an experimental Solar Jet, Richard knocked Hal out and took his place. He withstood a attempt by Eclipso to steal the plane, and crash-landed in the desert. Sadly, his heart could not take the strain and he died from a heart attack shortly after the landing.
