History

  Paul Christian was an ordinary guy who lost his legs in a subway accident. Years later, he was almost injured in a super-hero battle involving Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. Rayner tried to make amends by letting Paul use the Power Ring to create new legs for himself. Later, still another accident interrupted Paul's will power, which lost him his new legs. Eager to get them back, Paul accepted an offer from the demon Neron, who augmented his power. As the green-flaming Purgatory, Paul was assigned by Neron to kill Green Lantern, but failed his mission twice and later joined Neron's minions in Hell.
