History

In the early days of World War II, all branches of the American armed forces as well as a number of civilian groups joined forces on the top-secret "Project M", the Allies' most bizarre experiment in psychological warfare. Reasoning that all men are subconsciously terrified by certain nightmarish archetypes, Project M - for "Monster" - transformed a battle unit into living facsimiles of certain cretures out of folklore - this "monster squadron" became the original Creature Commandos. Later, Project M expanded their repertoire and oversaw the creations of heroes such as Miss America and G.I. Robot (I-IV), as well as the activities of a giant ape, a tyrannosaurus rex from Dinosaur Island, and the time-lost Viking Commando. After the War, they also resurrected Gunner of the Losers. Other people who have been connected to Project M in the past include: Professor Mazurksy, Per Degaton, "Agent X", Lieutenant Matthew Shrieve, and Marine Sergeant Coker.

Project M has survived to this day. Under the leadership of Captain Lucius Hunter, a new Creature Commandos saved Earth from an invasion of the otherdimensional Terra Arcana.
