  Anthony Ivo was a brilliant scientist obsessed with the thought of immortality. To this end, he built the incredibly advanced android Amazo, who was able to steal the powers of the members of the JLA. He also discovered a serum that would extend his life with 500 years. Although the JLA ultimately defeated him, the now virtually immortal Ivo returned and battled them time and again, more wickedly brilliant than ever. For a time, Ivo attempted to reform, took the name Ives and got a job as an astronomy professor. He would probably have remained happy on the straight side had it not been for a delayed reaction to the life-extending drug he had taken, which deformed his body hideously. Returning to a life of crime, Ivo was again defeated by the JLA, judged as insane and sent to Arkham Asylum. In time, Ivo realized that the deformity of his body was not a side effect of the immortality - it was the immortality. Making his body hard and stale, it would have rendered him a living statue had it not been for the unselfish actions of Justice League member Ice, who used Guy Gardner's Green Lantern Ring to cure Ivo. Crying, the humanized Ivo thanked Ice and promised to reform after doing his sentence. But old habits die hard. Once again power-hungry, Ivo started taking the disfiguring immortality serum again, and allied himself with fellow "mad scientist" T.O. Morrow, with whom he created the Tomorrow Woman, an android that infiltrated the new JLA. Since then, Ivo has constructed new versions of his Amazo android. He is currently imprisoned in the Belle Reve Penitentiary.
