History

Orphan Natasha Knight grew up on the streets of Gotham. At the age of twelve, she encountered the millionaire (and secretly ganglord) Charles Knight, who became a father figure in her life. After Charles had been killed by rivals, Natasha met her stepbrother Anton, who fell in love with her. The two soon lived up their inheritance, partly since they were used to a life in luxury, and partly because Natasha suffered from a rare "light sensitivity" disease and needed expensive medical treatment. When they ran out of money, they followed in their father's footsteps. Clad in a black body suit, Anton started to rob Gotham's rich as the Night-Thief, while Natasha operated behind the scenes as "Nocturna" mistress of the night. The two had several clashes with Batman. When Night-Thief went to prison, Nocturna continued her life of crime with other allies such as Nightshade (III). Still later, she became an intimate friend of both Bruce Wayne and the Batman, something that made both lives more complicated were they friends or foes? Anton, now known as Nightslayer, felt betrayed and vowed to kill Nocturna. However, it never came to that as she disappeared in an accident during the Crisis. She has not been seen since.

[Note: Nocturna has not appeared post-Crisis. Pre-Crisis, she was the adoptive mother of Jason Todd a.k.a. Robin II. That part is no longer canonical. Post-Crisis, the astronomer Natalie Mitternacht an acquaintance of Robin III had a history similar to Nocturna, but there is no evidence to support the theory that the two are one and the same.]
