  Whether Hannibal Hawk is a descendant of the Old West hero Hannibal Hawkes, alias Nighthawk I, is not known, but he uses the original's moniker and a variation of his black garb. However, these are the only similarities between the two. While the original Nighthawk was a violent but altruistic hero, his follower is a cynical mercenary, valuing money higher than anything else. Nighthawk II has been seen teaming up with Robin (III) and the modern Pow-Wow Smith (III) to help defeat the new Trigger Twins (II), a couple of Gotham criminals who also base their image on their heroic Old West ancestors.
