History

  Although Nekron has claimed to be an aspect of Death herself, this is now known not to be true. He is, however, the ruler of a part of the afterlife, known as the Land of the Unliving. Most souls of those who have died seem to pass through Nekron's Land (possibly a corner of Limbo or the Region of the Just Dead). In recent years, the evil Oan Krona crossed into Nekron's realm and opened a rift between it and the land of the living. Nekron increased Krona's powers, gave him an army of the dead to command and the mission to kill his own immortal race, the Guardians of the Universe, which would widen the rift between the dimensions and allow Nekron access to the living world. Krona and Nekron met resistance from the Guardians and their Green Lantern Corps. Although they were able to kill several Guardians, Green Lantern Hal Jordan put a stop to their plan by allying himself with the souls of hundreds of dead Green Lanterns. Krona and Nekron were weakened, and the dimensional warp was sealed. Since then, Nekron has returned several times to reach our universe, via magic means as well as manipulation of the Quantum Field. He once battled the demon Nebiros for control over a passageway. So far, Nekron’s attempts have been thwarted by heroes such as Witchfire, Wonder Woman, Captain Atom, and Green Lantern Kyle Rayner. How Nekron came into existence and became the ruler of his realm is not known.
