History

In the early 1800s, seafaring explorer Arthur Gordon Pym discovered the lost Arctic civilization of the alien Dzyan, masters of the magical energy called the Vril. Its power corrupted Pym and enabled him to mentally enslave the aliens. Pym had the Dzyans construct a pirate submarine called Nautilus, with which Pym, now referring to himself as "Captain Nemo", plundered ships worldwide. The Nautilus was destroyed in the late 19th century, and Pym later created a mobile war-island called the Leviathan instead. Pym/Nemo is the grandfather of Neptune Perkins.

[Note: This Nautilus and Captain Nemo are obviously based on the books of Jules Verne (mixed with Edgar Allan Poe, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and H.P. Blavatsky).]
