  Eclipso is an evil god of revenge who has had a great many dealings with the super-heroes of the world. He was imprisoned for many years in a black diamond but was accidentally released by solar scientist Bruce Gordon. Eclipso inhabited Gordon's body, taking it over at times of solar eclipse to wreak acts of great evil; he was opposed by Mona Bennett (Bruce's fiancée) and mystics such as the Phantom Stranger.

  In recent years, Gordon has been freed from Eclipso's influence, which left the god free to commit greater and greater acts of evil, including the slaughter of many innocents and at least eight super-heroes. Eventually re-imprisoned in the diamond by the Spectre, he is no doubt working on a way to return for revenge on his enemies.
