A famous big game hunter, Congo Bill tended to spend much of his time in Africa. Here he encountered and adopted a young boy named Janu and was also presented with the ring of the Golden Gorilla by King Kawolo as a token of his tribe's respect. Able to swap minds with the powerful golden gorilla (Congorilla), Congo Bill battled evil in Africa as both man and ape for many years. Eventually, Janu wrested control of the ring away from him and it took a fierce struggle for Bill to regain his own body, which was missing the left eye by this point. Janu, in the body of the Congorilla, perished, but Bill lives on.
