History

  George Harkness is a native of Australia, sent to America by his mother, desperate to get him away from his stepfather. He took a job demonstrating boomerangs, but, not being a particularly moral guy, liked to line his pockets with a spot of pilfering as well. This brought him into conflict with the Flash, whom Harkness would oppose, as Captain Boomerang, with a variety of ever more bizarre boomerang gadgets. After the death of the Flash, he spent a long stretch of time serving on the government-sponsored Suicide Squad. For a while he seemed to reform, but he came back, bad as ever, ready to prove a thorn in the side of the current Flash. However, by now he was washed up, reduced to dealing in (probably fake) Miraclo and similar substances. Shortly after meeting his son, Owen Mercer, Captain Boomerang was hired to kill Jack Drake. He succeeded, but was killed himself at the same time.
