  Swedish scientist Dr. Sven Larsen was a former student of Niles Caulder who had accused him of stealing his ideas. Falling into a vat of amino acids during one of his own experiments, Larsen was transformed into a creature that could take the shape of any animal, vegetable, or mineral. Taking the not-so-elegant codename of 'Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man', Larsen used his uncanny abilities to attempt to take revenge on Caulder. He was defeated by the Doom Patrol, who stripped him of his powers and sent him to jail. However, the Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man returned to plague the Patrol time and again. More than once, he was defeated with one of his own inventions – the anti-decay ray. Finally, Larsen was broken out of prison by General Immortus who sent him after the Chief. Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man was once again defeated, this time by a new incarnation of the Doom Patrol.
