  CIA agent Ben Lockwood was left behind on a mission to Iraq and was deemed never to have existed as far as the government was concerned. On his escape from Iraq and return to the US, he found that he couldn't resume his life - not, apparently, having one - and instead donned an experimental suit which incorporated a force-field and jet pack among other gadgets. He worked briefly with Justice League America after Superman's death, but was more usually a solo agent, fighting against government corruption where he could. Following a disillusioning battle with an old friend, who revealed himself to be the leader of the Sons of Liberty, Ben Lockwood shredded his costume and has not appeared as Agent Liberty since. However, he has since shown up wearing the costume once again.
