History

A very strongwilled and intelligent woman, Abigail was born the daughter of Gregori Arcane, an Eastern European businessman. Gregori seemingly died in an explosion when Abigail was still a little girl, leaving her an orphan. (In reality, he had survived and been transformed into the monstrous Patchwork Man by his brother Anton.) In recent years, an American government agent named Matthew Cable visited her small Balkan village in search of the Swamp Thing. Abby and Matt fell in love and pursued their hunt for the creature together. Eventually, they learned that Swamp Thing was the remains of Matt's friend Alec Holland and befriended him. Abby and Matt married, but their marriage was a troubled one due to Matt’s alcoholism. After Matt had experienced an accident and fallen into a coma, Abby revealed to the Swamp Thing that she had fallen in love with him. In spite of the 'unnaturalness' of it, the two started a long-lived relationship and even managed to raise a daughter named Tefé.

However, the Swamp Thing’s elemental evolution made him increasingly distant from humanity, and after a strained period, Abby broke off their “marriage”. Recently, however, she has attempted to return to his life again.
