PERSONAL DATA

Real Name: Rose Canton
Aliases: Alyx Florin
First Appearance: Flash Comics #89 (November 1947)

HISTORY

Rose Canton was a botany student with a multiple personalities disorder who gained plant-based powers from the strange flora of Tashmi Island in the Pacific. Creating the evil persona of the Thorn, she became a serious threat to Flash Jay Garrick in the late 1940s. Decades later, a cured and reformed Rose started a new life as 'Alyx Florin' and fell in love with Green Lantern Alan Scott, whom she eventually married. On their honeymoon, the Thorn persona resurfaced and attempted to steal Scott's power ring, which resulted in an explosion that made him believe she was dead. However, she was alive and pregnant with his children, twins that she put up for adoption and who would later become the super-heroes known as Jade and Obsidian. For years, Rose became the criminal Thorn on several occasions, with Green Lantern unknowing that she was actually his 'deceased' wife. The Thorn later returned to Tashmi Island, the source of her powers, and was eventually encountered by Alan Scott and their now-adult children. While Thorn threatened to kill them all, the Rose persona emerged again. Rather than allow the Thorn to continue her evil deeds, she killed herself.
