GUIDE TO THE SECTORS OF THE UNIVERSE
|

A space sector is one of 3600 territorial units of known space in what is sometimes referred to as “the Oan Protectorate” as designated by the Guardians of the Universe. Some sectors have no life whatsoever, while other sectors are teeming with worlds. Each sector is shaped like a triangular wedge and points towards Oa, which is considered the “center of the universe” a term which is at times debatable. Each sector is patrolled by two Green Lanterns, generally indigenous to a world within their given sector. It is said this allocation makes Oa one of the best protected worlds in the universe. Oa is located in Sector 0, the epicenter of the sectors. Therefore, a Green Lantern is actually still in their sector when on Oa.
It should be noted there are other Sectors beyond the 3600. Sector 3601 is considered outside the Guardians sphere of interests, and Green Lanterns are not permitted to travel in that region. It was formerly home to the Manhunters and their artificial world Biot. How sector 3601 is located in comparison with the 3600 sectors has yet to be explained.
Sector -1 represents the antimatter universe, specifically the planet Qward, center of that universe which lies on the “underside” of the multiverse.
A listing of sectors appears below. This list is obviously not complete as it only represents sectors that have been documented with either a named world, a member of either the Green Lantern or Sinestro Corps, or some other historical significance. As the 52 world multiverse features a number of universes with their own Green Lantern Corps, their specific sectors are also noted where applicable. In some universes there may be little correlation between the planets in one universe, for example Krypton is commonly described in Sector 2813, but in one universe Krypton is located in Sector 1003. Likewise, at least one universe features at least 5134 sectors. It is not known if that universe’s Guardians have a greater sphere of interest, or the same amount of space has simply been divided into smaller units. As this “Earth-D” universe was destroyed in the first Crisis, it is not known if a similar universe has taken its place in the new multiverse.

Note: Due to vague information as to the Green Lanterns of Sectors 885 & 3544 in Infinite Crisis #7, it was impossible to say who patrolled which sector. Additional sector assignments were established in the Tales of the Sinestro Corps hardcover reprint of the “Fallen Lanterns” feature from Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps: Secret Files #1, but the waters got muddier as no sector was listed for Cundiff Cood, but Galius Zed’s sector was established as 3335.
As the Green Lantern Corps Web Page’s Book of Oa’s profiles are fan written and by definition unofficial we are considering the reprinted information to be a typo and therefore will treat the three deceased Green Lanterns resembling Galius Zed to hail from sector 3544. Therefore, the Green Lanterns of Hyrakius are to be considered from Sector 885, and sector partners of Green Lantern Horoq Nnot. Should additional information become available, we will make corrections if needed.

Profile originally posted on America OnLine 11/11/95.
Though I’ll slowly be building profiles for some of the planets in the DC Universe, I’d like to point out they will never be as detailed as I’d like. Planetary classifications such as atmospheric composition, surface temperature, size, rotational period, or solar classifications such as size, luminosity... even the color of the sun are details pretty much ignored in comics. Artwork with dozens of planets within one panel might look dramatic, but it’s astronomically improbable, if not impossible.
The majority of space sectors referenced above were established in the Tales of the Sinestro Corps hardcover reprint of the “Fallen Lanterns” feature from Green Lantern/Sinestro Corps: Secret Files #1.
Green Lanterns without designated space sectors include Anya Savenlovich, Artis Chep, Gion, Hammeroon, Kendotha Kr'nek, Liana, M'hdahna, NautKeLoi, Nosa'Elg, Phantos, Probert, Sool, Sqweeegg, the Unknown Lantern, and Zborra
Sinestro Corps soldiers without designated space sectors include the Dominator, Predator, Starro and Quintet.
Red Lanterns without designated space sectors include Abysmma, Bleez, Dex-Starr, Vice.
Major DCU worlds without designated space sectors include Braal, Colu, Dominion homeworld, Durla, Throneworld.
