Synopsis:

The heroes of the JLA confront J'onn, who is beginning to suspect that his old enemy Ma'alefa'ak is still alive. He is unaware of what his impersonator has been doing, but swears to the JLA that he is innocent, even agreeing to have the truth extracted from him via Wonder Woman's lariat. However, Malefic (as the evil Martian now calls himself) is also invisibly present on the Watchtower and attacks the JLA, making it seem as if J'onn is the actual source of the attacks. In order to protect his colleagues, J'onn escapes the Watchtower on a shuttle, only to find that it is booby-trapped and that Malefic is able to watch him burn up.
