Determined to find Jakeem, the Justice Society seek out Doctor Fate, only to find that he is not at his tower in Salem, which shows signs of a struggle. Here, they encounter Nabu, who detects that Jakeem and 'another' are inside Jakeem's pen, which is a portal to the Fifth Dimension. He cannot bring their friend out, but he can open a portal for them to get in. However, once Hourman, Stargirl and Mister Terrific have passed through, he is attacked by Mordru, who has escaped the Rock of Eternity, and the portal closes. In the fifth dimension, Yz and his friends have been fighting a losing battle against a great evil and with the arrival of the three members of the JSA, the identity of this evil is revealed as Jakeem Thunder, who has Johnny Thunder on a leash.
