He wants to try and contact the Spectre via the wizard Shazam, but the Spectre is already waiting for them. Elsewhere, Johnny Sorrow holds Sand captive as he gloats over the horrible victory he is experiencing as the influence of the King of tears extends into the 'real world'.

Meanwhile, Sentinel is rushed to hopsital by his team-mates. And a tearful, desperate Black Canary revives Doctor Mid-Nite, who had not been killed outright by Sorrow's gaze due to (in his own words) his 'unique occular condition'. A strangely changed and energised Flash also arrives on the scene, having dfeated Rival by quite literally absorbing some of him. He has the idea of bringing J.J.Thunder onto the scene, seeing that the huge threat demands a power-house, and J.J. has one on tap in the form of his thunderbolt...or would if he knew how to handle him properly. The rest of the JSA arrive, making the King of Tears mad, but help is on hand when Wildcat and Black Adam arrve on the scene accompanied by the Spectre.

The Spectre goes up against the King of Tears, fully expecting to win, but is cut down immediately, and left as a gigantic skeleton.
