As Mr Terrific races to learn Transmyocardial Revascularisation in time to save Sentinel's life, The Thinker gloats over him and his inevitable defeat. Hawkgirl and the Star-Spangled Kid are trapped in the HQ and the other members of the team are under attack from the various members of the Injustice Society. Doctor Mid-Nite is able to take out Count Vertigo by messing with the implanted hearing aids which correct the villain's inner ear disorder; Flash fares less well against Rival, however, racing him to the edge of the Speed Force; Sand easily dispatches Geomancer and Killer Wasp, but is concerned about Wildcat, for Black Adam has taken him up into the high atmosphere.
Back at the HQ, Star-Spangled Kid takes out Shiv and has a confrontation with The Thinker. Meanwhile, as Tigress is about to kill Hawkgirl, a huge number of past lives pass through Kendra's mind and she suddenly explodes with massive, inexplicable power. Mister Terrific has stabilised Sentinel, but the door to the infirmary bursts open. Luckily it is Star-Spangled Kid, who has taken down both Icicle and Blackbriar Thorn by short-circuiting their synapses with the stars created by her cosmic converter belt. Sand catches up with Mid-Nite and Canary, who had been able to get Count Vertigo to talk. They discover that Johnny Sorrow plans to unleash the Kibg of Tears. this greatly disturbs Sand and they race to the home of Louis Sendak (Scarab), not having time to wait for the others. There they are confronted by Johnny Sorrow, who shows his face to Mid-Nite, leaving him dead.
