Synopsis:

Kid Eternity is pursued through the sewers and killed by the Dark Lord while Sand has a dream in which he learns of Sandman's death and makes contact with Dream of the Endless.

Wesley Dodds' funeral is held, at which Sand gives a eulogy. Also in attendance are the active JSAers (Wildcat, Flash, Sentinel and Hippolyta) along with Ted Knight and Johnny Thunder, Starman, Hourman, Atom Smasher, Star-Spangled Kid and Black Canary. Jade is unable to attend due to problems in New York arising from the time she spent as a Green Lantern. Elsewhere, Obsidian meets a mysterious man called Ian in a restaurant.

After the funeral, the Flash sees a vision of Kent Nelson, the former Doctor Fate, mere seconds before Jared Stevens, current bearer of the helm of Nabu, arrives, collapsing due to a knife in his back. He has been murdered. Before the assembled heroes truly have time to react, the Sons of Anubis - ancient Egyptian zombie-like creatures - burst from the ground to steal Fate's artefacts, which disappear once the heroes remove the threat they pose. Scarab arrives, telling the heroes that their help is urgently needed.
