Metron, Barda and Wonder Woman visit Wonderworld, where they find the immensely powerful heroes slain, killed in their mission to prevent the coming of Mageddon. The only survivor is the diminutive Mote, who lives long enough to warn the JLA about how the heroes turned against one another before they fell.

Meanwhile, Mister Miracle warns the JLA of the same, as Aztec is alerted to the coming of Tezcatlipoca, the being he was born to defeat. While Oracle alerts all past and present members of the Justice League to the problem, Lex Luthor and Prometheus finalise their plans against the League, meeting the General and the alien Queen Bee in the 'phantom zone'. Their first act is to set off a number of explosions in the Watchtower and sever the League's connection with Oracle.
