As Hawkman tries to explain to Hawkgirl why she shouldn't kill Chief Nedal, the murderer of her parents, they are interrupted by the last man he killed - Jim Craddock, the Gentleman Ghost, who is fated to live on Earth as a spirit until the Hawks' souls finally move on. He has been manipulating events in their lives, and reveals that he has sent Nedal back to the museum. Here Nedal wounds Officer Isabella, and kills Jayita Sahir, leading Hawkman to want him dead as well. By this time, Hawkgirl has realised the wisdom of his words and the refuse to end his life, but the Gentleman Ghost does it for them, promising to return, either as friend or foe, as soon as he's bored. Two weeks later, some time after Jayita's funeral, Shayera Thal decides it's time she found out the truth surrounding the Hawks.
